Speaking Engagements

I'm available to give talks on the subject of custom-lettered neon GIFs. Inquire here.

Neon Speaks

I co-produced the inaugural Neon Speaks Festival & Symposium in 2018 with my neon buddies, San Francisco Neon. Opening night of the festival focused on the subject of typography, and I got to give a talk about my neon GIF process.

Typographics

I was super honored to be invited to speak at Typographics 2017, a design conference at Cooper Union in New York. My talk took place in the TypeLab – the first half covered what led me to making neon GIFs and how I fell in love with neon signs; the second half was a demo on making custom-lettered GIFs, from initial pencil sketch to final animation and output.

I also wrote a blog piece for the conference, which was a bit more nerdy and historical, and includes an abbreviated version of the GIF-making demo.

Walking Tours

Electric Letterland

I led a group of type nerds on a summertime neon walking tour for TypeCon 2018, when the conference came to Portland for its 20th anniversary. Portland has some gorgeous vintage neon, which I love to show locals and travelers alike. It was a fun tour and so I decided to offer it on a regular basis!

Go here to find out when the next tour is, and sign up for the Electric Letterland newsletter

I also created a Neon Map + Poster of Portland which you can buy here
